Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

If there is anything you'd like to know that is not answered here, please contact us. and we'll do our best to answer your questions.   The questions are listed in no particular order.  The newest are first so if you have visited our faqs page before, you can see the newest additions without scrolling all the way down the list.

  • What Coupons do you accept?
We are entered into and participate in both the Hollywood Movie Magic  and Movie Cash programs. If the coupon you have has either one of these names on it, we will accept it.  Please read the fine print on them carefully.  We must follow the guidelines listed on them.   We do not accept coupons or gift certificates from other theaters.   Any coupon we offer locally will have our name (Cinema 1 Plus....) clearly marked on it.

  • Why don't you have the coupons on the internet anymore?
We had to take them off because people were taking advantage of them.  They have been off the internet for several years now  and we are still getting them because a few people obviously printed or copied dozens of them.  So everyone suffers because 1 or 2 people take advantage.

  • What is your policy on R-Rated Movies?
No person under the age of 17 will be permitted into any (R) rated movie without being accompanied by a parent or legal guardian over the age of 25.  Maximum of 2 under age persons per legal guardian allowed.

  • Does it matter which movie I watch?  If I buy a ticket, why does the movie I see matter?  They all cost the same, don't they?
It matters to the film companies.   They get a large percentage of each ticket sold and if you are watching their movie without buying a ticket for that movie,  they lose money and that does not make them happy with us at all.  We are pretty careful to try and keep the film companies happy with us and have never had this happen to us, but film companies have been known to cut theaters off from their films for long periods of time.    In this business, the film company is all powerful, since without their films, we wouldn't exist.

  • Do you  know what's playing (or show times) at Union?
We have no affiliations with any other theater and so do not keep track or what they are playing or their show times.  This is sort of like going into a Burger King and asking for a Big Mac.

  • I have these gift certificates from Wehrenberg, AMC, etc.   Why can't I use them at Cinema 1 Plus?
We are totally independent from any other theater and therefore do not accept gift certificates or passes for other theaters.  I think if you took one of our Gift Certificates into one of the other theaters, you'd probably get the same reaction.  They received the money for the gift certificate when it was sold and would have no way to redeem them, the same as for us.

  • Where do you get your popcorn?
All of the popcorn we sell is popped fresh daily at the theater.   Popcorn left over at end of day is thrown away so that we start every day with freshly popped corn.

  • What happens to posters and other promotional material after a movie leaves the theater?

All posters and other promotional materials that we get are the property of the film companies and fall under copyright laws.   Most film companies want all materials destroyed when we are finished with it.
Posters can be purchased at http://www.allposters.com/gallery.asp  or http://www.movieposter.com/

  • Why can't you edit out the bad parts of the movie?
All films are copyrighted material and any editing is strictly forbidden under high penalties.

  • I missed part of the movie, can you rewind it?
The movies we show are in 35 millimeter film format and our projectors have neither a fast forward or a rewind on them.

  • How do you decide show times?
We try to schedule all films with plenty of time between start and end times so that we have time to go in and pickup trash and  to perform some basic cleaning on the auditoriums.   Also, show times are staggered to minimize lines at both ticket and concession counters, and to insure that parking is available.  (Although when we are extremely busy, parking is still scarce) .  We try to make sure that there is plenty of time for people in one showing to exit and for people in the next showing to find seats before the lights go down.

  • How do you decide which movies to get?   We try to book the most popular movies or at least the ones we think are going to be the most popular.  Of the movies, we don't open on national break, it depends on screen availability and how many requests we get for a certain movie, so if there is something you want to see, let us know.  We can't play everything out there but we try to  book the movies that the majority of people want to see.

  • Why are your ticket prices so high?     In order to be able to stay first run and bring you the films at the same time as they are in the rest of the country, we have to keep our grosses on ticket sales up.   We could have lower ticket prices, but we would have to play most films at least a month or 6 weeks later than national opening day.

  • Why are your concession prices so high?   Since the film companies get most of ticket sales, the concession stand has to pay the bills and believe me there are lots of them, from payroll to construction loans.   Actually, though, our concession prices are some of the lowest around (for movie theaters).

  • When are you going to add another screen?   We are planning on expanding but at this time, it is still a couple of years down the road.

  • At what age does a child have to pay for a ticket?   Any child no matter what their age needs a ticket if he/she takes a seat.  Children 2 and under who do not occupy a seat will be free of charge.  So, if you have an infant and use a seat for  your infant seat, you need to purchase a ticket.

  • Why don't you sell children's tickets for a R rated movie?  Children's pricing is only available for (G) and (PG) rated movies. All other film ratings are subject to General Admission.  If a child is considered adult enough to watch R and PG-13 rated films, then they should pay adult prices.

  • How soon can I buy advanced tickets to a movie?  We cant' sell advanced tickets until we get show times figured out for all movies.  Generally advanced tickets go on sale on Wednesday before the weekend and are sold up to the next Thursday, when we get to start all over.

  • I bought my ticket 3 days ago, 4 hours ago, etc.  Why can't I have the seat I want?  Advanced tickets guarantee you a seat and that is all.  Seats are on a first come first seated basis and if you come at the last minute for a sold out show, you get what's left and that is generally the worst seats in the house and are usually not next to each other.

  • Why don't you have reserved seating?  Besides the $10,000-$20,000 cost for the software to handle reserved seating, the research I've done on reserved seating tells me that it causes more problems than it solves.

  • Why can't you give me a large cup of water for free?  After all, it's only water and water is free isn't it?  First of all, water isn't free.  We like everyone get a water bill each and every month.  We are currently offering a medium cup of water for $.50.  Cups are counted every night in order to keep an accurate inventory and it gets really hard to keep track or cups that are given out willy-nilly

  • Why do you run so many previews?  This is our chance to let people who actually come to the movies know what's coming.  Actually, we have a policy that allows not more than 4 previews for any one film.  Some of you think that is too many.  Others think it is not enough.  Sometimes for a really big film we get in as many as ten or twelve that, of course, the film companies all want us to play.  We still limit it to no more than 5.  We try to fit the preview to the audience and try really hard to make them age appropriate.  (For example, we won't show an R-rated preview with a G rated film)

  • Why Don't you take credit cards?  As of January, 2003 we  take Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express Credit Cards.
